Simple steps to help your item sell faster in India

Daylight near a window. Plain background. Full item visible.
Backlight makes outfits look dark and dull.
Clutter distracts buyers. Use a plain wall or bedsheet.

How to take good photos with your phone

  • Use daylight. Shoot near a window. Keep the light in front of the item.
  • Background should be plain. Wall, curtain, or clean bedsheet.
  • Show front, back, and close-ups of embroidery, borders, and fabric texture.
  • Hang on a hanger or drape neatly. For jewellery, lay flat on a neutral surface and show size on wrist/neck if possible.
  • Keep the frame straight. Avoid tilting. Hold steady or lean the phone on a book.
  • No heavy filters. Buyers want true colour. Adjust only brightness if needed.
  • Wipe the camera lens with a soft cloth before shooting.
  • Don’t crop out borders, tassels, or sleeves. Show the full item.
  • Don’t mix different items in the same photo. One item per photo.
Required photos
  • Full front
  • Full back
  • Close-ups: neck, border, embroidery
  • Any defects: loose thread, small mark
  • Blouse and dupatta (if included)
Optional but helpful
  • Outfit on mannequin or neatly draped
  • Jewellery worn on wrist/neck for size reference
  • Natural daylight plus 1 bright tube light if needed
  • Short video pan to show shine and drape

Show it on a person

One simple photo of the item being worn helps buyers visualise fit, drape, and length.

  • Stand near a window with light on the front. Use a plain wall or curtain behind.
  • Full-length if possible. Show how the dupatta is worn or how a necklace sits.
  • Face optional for privacy — crop from nose down if preferred.
  • Avoid mirrors that distort proportions. No heavy filters.

Do’s & Don’ts (quick view)

Do Don’t
Use daylight, plain background, steady phone Backlight, busy bedsheets, tilted frames
Show front, back, close-ups, and any defects Hide flaws or crop out borders and sleeves
Add measurements in inches or cms Write only S/M/L without chest or length
Say what’s included: blouse, dupatta, cancan Leave buyers guessing about set pieces
Use simple colour names buyers understand Use heavy filters or confusing colour terms
Mention margins, closures, fall/pico for sarees Skip tailoring info buyers need

How to write a clear, honest description

Keep it short, easy to read, and complete. Buyers in India look for these points first.

  • Item type: saree, lehenga, salwar suit, kurta set, jewellery
  • Material: silk, cotton, georgette, chiffon, velvet
  • Colour: simple names like maroon, mustard, emerald green
  • Condition: new, worn once, gently used
  • Measurements: chest, waist, length, sleeve
  • What’s included: blouse, dupatta, cancan, fall/pico
  • Margins & closures: margins inside blouse, side zip/hooks, dori
  • Defects: small stain, loose thread, missing bead
  • Care: dry clean only, gentle hand wash
Measurements matter
Use inches or cms. Example for blouse: chest 38 in, length 14.5 in, sleeve 9 in. This reduces returns and questions.
